What the Records Agree On
The complex was ordinary. A mid-rise apartment block outside Gangjin-gun, built fast and cheap in the late 1970s, on land that had held kilns, fortresses, and temples for a thousand years. On the night of October 18, 1982 — the event the files call the 변고 (the Calamity), and the surviving locals call 거둠 (the gathering-in, the word used for a harvest, and for collecting the dead) — the building stopped being architecture. Demolition failed in 1986. It failed again in 2003 and was not attempted a third time. The building has been growing ever since. Its floor count is not known. Its intent, in every recovered account, is consistent: it does not want you dead. It wants you to stay.
ON THE CAUSE. Four accounts of the origin exist in the files. The ground was always wrong. The folk circle called it. The grief became flesh. Something came. They contradict each other on dates, witnesses, and physical evidence. All four are filed. None is confirmed.
